AmeriCorps Program

The Urban Institute for teacher Education (UITE) is collaborating with Utah Higher Education AmeriCorps Network (UHEAN) to provide the opportunity to apply for financial support for individuals who will complete their final year of licensure, fall 2021 and spring 2022. This program is limited to those students that are completing student teaching as part of their licensure year. Students completing the internship program are not eligible.

What is UHEAN?

The Utah Higher Education AmeriCorps Network (UHEAN) is an education award AmeriCorps Program in the state of Utah. UHEAN utilizes students at seven colleges and university students throughout the state. UHEAN AmeriCorps Members provide support to hundreds of community organizations through direct service and capacity building efforts. The work performed by AmeriCorps members increases the ability for organizations to continue providing much-needed services in the areas of education, healthy futures and economic opportunity.

Formerly Utah Campus Compact AmeriCorps, the UHEAN Program is currently in its 11th grant year of service with 850+ members currently serving terms.

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps engages more than 75,000 Americans in intensive service each year at 21,000 unique sites including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country.

Since the program’s founding in 1994, more than 1 million AmeriCorps members have contributed more than 1.4 billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing more than 2.3 million volunteers for the organizations they serve.

AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive service positions where they learn valuable work skills, earn money for education, and develop an appreciation for citizenship.

The AmeriCorps Program is available to both Elementary and Secondary licensure year students. It is limited to student teachers who are completing their licensure year during the 2021-2022 academic year.
